Henry Samueli serves on the board of directors of Broadcom Inc. and was chairman of the board from December 2018 to June 2026. Previously, he served as chief technical officer from February 2016 to December 2018. Samueli co-founded Broadcom Corporation in 1991 while teaching at his alma mater, UCLA. He held several executive leadership positions in the company until its 2016 acquisition by Broadcom Inc. (formerly known as Avago Technologies Limited), including as chief technical officer from 1991 to 2008 and 2009 to 2016, technology advisor from 2008 to 2009, and vice president of research and development from 1991 to 2003. He has been the co-owner of the National Hockey League’s Anaheim Ducks since 2005.

Samueli joined UCLA in 1985 as a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, where he developed research programs in broadband communications circuits and digital signal processing. He has been on leave of absence since 1995. Since 2003, Samueli has also been a distinguished adjunct professor at UC Irvine’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Prior to Broadcom Corporation, he co-founded PairGain Technologies, a telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the digital subscriber line industry, where he served as chief scientist from 1988 to 1994. He held various engineering and management positions in the Electronics and Technology Division of TRW Inc. from 1980 to 1985.

Samueli received a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from UCLA in 1975, 1976 and 1980, respectively. A prolific inventor, he holds more than 75 U.S. patents and has published more than 100 technical papers. He is widely recognized for helping make broadband internet access available to consumers by inventing and commercializing cable modems and other analog and mixed-signal circuits that have revolutionized modern communications systems.

In addition to his professional achievements, Samueli is a prominent philanthropist. In 2000, UCLA’s engineering school was named the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science in recognition of a 1999 gift from Samueli and his wife, Susan, through the Samueli Foundation. The engineering school at UC Irvine is also named in his honor.

Samueli is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Inventors Hall of Fame. He is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Inventors. He has received numerous international honors for his contributions to communications technology, including the IEEE Medal of Honor, the Global Semiconductor Alliance Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award, and the Marconi Society Prize and Fellowship. He has also been awarded the University of California Presidential Medal, the UCLA Medal and the UC Irvine Medal. At UCLA Samueli, he serves as chair of the Dean’s Executive Board, guiding initiatives such as capital projects and school expansion.
